About me
My name is Emily Hardy and I am a recently returned Peace Corps/Peace Corps Response volunteer who served in both Cameroon and Rwanda. While in Rwanda I worked for Save the Children International as an Education Specialist in Mahama Refugee Camp. While there I applied, and received, a grant to construct a library for the community. I also trained teachers in ESL and Literacy and Numeracy Instruction. I had the good fortune of coaching the Burundian Men's, Women's and Boys' basketball teams. In cooperationw with these teams I set up a mentoring program and trained 18 mentors then matched them with unaccompanied children (those who arrived in camp without family). The program is now self-sustrainable and has grown to over 60 members.

Before Peace Corps I was an ESL tutor as well as a collegiate basketball coach at Stony Brook University. I have a master's degree in Political Science. I have a TEFL certification as well.

Tutoring Service Description
I can provide tutoring services across the board, with my specialties lying in the area of essay writing, ESL, and course-specific instruction.
Target students
I love working with students of all different ages and abilities. I currently teach English as a second language to Chinese learners from ages 3-unlimited!
Teaching philosophy
I truly believe ANY student has the potential to succeed, and it is our job as educators to put them in a position to do just that! Each student has a distinct learning style and I make it my mission to tailor classes and instruction in a way that makes learning fun and efficient for the learner.
Short biography
I was born and raised on the shores of Connecticut, always looking toward the horizon for the next big adventure. I played basketball at the University of New Hampshire and then accepted a graduate assistant position with the Women's Basketball team at Long Island University - Brooklyn. After completing my Master's degree in Political Science, I served as an Assistant Basketball coach at Stony Brook University. While coaching for the Seawolves, I also served as Academic Coordinator, working closely with our student athletes to ensure they were succeeding in the classroom as well as on the basketball court.

After three years in this position, I applied, and was accepted for, the Peace Corps. I served as an Education Volunteer in Northern Cameroon for three years. I lived without running water or power, and it was AWESOME. I feel humbled and incredibly lucky to have had that experience. Unfortunately, we were unexpectedly evacuated from our posts when violence became unpredictable along the border with the Central African Republic.

After leaving Cameroon, I accepted a position with Peace Corps Response and Save the Children International in Eastern Rwanda. Here I worked in Mahama Refugee Camp training teachers to instruct courses in ESL and Literacy and Numeracy. I just returned and here I am...until the next adventure :).
