For many of us St. Valentine’s Day is a joyous time, a chance to demonstrate each other the depth of our feelings, exchanging flowers, cards and gifts. But what about those who do not have someone to share their festive mood with? The only thing worse than being single is being single on this very special day. You feel like crap and cannot stand to see those, happily involved in the relationship, looking at you pitifully.

If you are one of those who cannot get excited about celebrating their romantic love on this day, there are some things you can do about it.

1. Do not feel like you are the only one who has no long-term relationship.

Millions of others have problems like yours in fact. Do not think something is wrong with you for your relationship status does not define who you are or your value.

2. Look at all the festivities like at something extremely commercial.

For that what it really is. No one enjoys St. Valentine’s Day more than shop owners. All that roses and chocolate stuff is a great way to earn another buck. Be proud of yourself for not falling prey to silly advertisement tricks

3. Spend this day with someone you really love:

your family, close friends, pets. Exchange gifts and cards, that will cheer you up.

4. Looking back will give you nothing but regrets.

There is no good in reviving memories of times long gone. Missed opportunities, terrible dates and relationships that did not work out have to be forgotten on St. Valentine’s Day. Think about your future and all the wonderful things that are soon to happen.

5. Be Your Own Date.

I know what you must be thinking right now. However, I assure you there is nothing pathetic in being selfishly in love with yourself on this day. Buy a nice present, cook some great meal, and take a long bubble bath. In other words, treat yourself to something very nice!

6. Take advantage of an opportunity to meet someone special on this day

Attend special parties for singles; let your friends arrange a blind date for you. Or simply smile at that pretty girl in the store who you have always fancied.

Ever-lasting love or a reliable and caring partner are definitely worth looking for. The important thing to remember here is that there are no deadlines for that. Do not feel threatened or depressed because you are to meet St. Valentine’s Day alone this year. You are not a loser because it is in no way a competition. Next year it will be different!
