Apart from enjoying the limelight, attending fancy parties and owing the world’s best and most exquisite property, many celebrities are deeply concerned about making their contribution to worthy causes. Some of them choose to be active environmentalists, others feel strongly about helping disabled or disadvantaged people and starving children of Africa, still others have a soft place in their hearts for supporting educational initiatives. Here is a list of world-famous celebrities who really help improve education and make it more accessible to students worldwide. They contribute large amount of money, energy and time to make this world better.

Bill Gates along with his charming wife Melinda are huge supporters of tech education programs designed to help promising minority students achieve success in life. The Foundation has donated billions of dollars in grants and scholarships for small rural schools as well as individuals who would otherwise have no chance to go too far.

Oprah Winfrey is a well-known philanthrope. She is especially interested in doing educational charity. She also widely encourages her fans and viewers to contribute. So far, she has raised over $80 million and created scholarships for gifted children all over the world.

• One of the richest and youngest Internet entrepreneurs in the world, Mark Zuckerberg is determined to give most of his fortune to charity. He started with creating the Foundation for Newark’s Future, an organization, which donated $100 million to benefit Newark’s public schools.

Justin Timberlake is not only a talented singer and actor but also a passionate supporter of music education. Justin believes it to be an essential part of children’s development. For this reason, he created the Justin Timberlake Foundation, which in co-partnership with the U.S. Congress initiated programs to make quality music education accessible to all U.S. public school students.

• Being one of those who rule the world of music, Shakira is deeply concerned about providing wider educational opportunities to poor and deprived children. The Barefoot Foundation, which she founded in 1995, patronizes as many as 6000 children in Colombia, South Africa and Haiti. She has recently been appointed the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.

• The Talented Mr. Ripley, Matt Damon is an active supporter and contributor to various educational causes. He also recognizes the challenges teachers face in their day-to-day work and believes it is important to encourage teachers to develop professionally and support them in any way possible.

• The last but hardly the least is Angelina Jolie, whose incredible charity work made her a UN refugee agency’s Goodwill Ambassador. However, Angelina’s interests go beyond this: she also helped build a public school in Afghanistan and enthusiastically supports primary schools in Cambodia.

While there are those celebrities who use charity to self-promote their work and gain wider popularity, the above-mentioned people are definitely quite a different breed. They do not seek appreciation nor thanks. All they do is try to make this world a better place to live in.
