3D movies are on fire these days. The majority of them are smash hits and box office success. In the recent years, we have seen a large number of the most astonishing 3D wonders coming thick and fast, featuring extremely talented and recognized animators, award-winning sculptors etc. For some of these movies like Titanic or The Nightmare Before Christmas it is the second-time success, others hit the screens for the first time.

Here is the list of top four most successful 3D films ever made:

Avatar

James Cameron is the king of 3D and don’t even start arguing with that! Avatar, which was and remains to be the biggest box-office smash of all time, showed us what a real 3D film should be like. An ex-marine officer Jake Sully who is sent to the moon Pandora on a mission to discover the deposits of the precious material Unobtainium, suddenly becomes aware of the corporate’s real intentions to drive Pandora natives out and take over their rich lands. Jake Sully then has to choose between following his orders and saving the beautiful world that has become his home.

The Lion King

Nobody could have possibly been prepared for this one. It has been almost 20 years since we saw this cartoon for the first time, and let’s be honest, it took us a little while to come back to ourselves. And now it is back, only this time in 3D Blu-ray release, which made it look even more impressive and occasionally more breathtaking. Oh, God! I just hope there is no Bambi 3D on its way!

Life of Pi

This year’s holiday audience was thrilled to see Ang Lee’s cinematographic interpretation of the book by Yann Martel, telling us about an unbelievable adventure of Pi Patel, the smart son of a zookeeper, who survives the shipwreck and ends up in a lifeboat with a starving Bengal tiger. Suffice it is to say that apart from religious motives and tones that the film abounds with, there are a sizeable number of startling and glorious 3D effects that make the film truly outstanding. In my personal opinion, Life of Pi is special since it is one of the few films that managed to deliver the main message that was not overshadowed by any visuals no matter how impressive they are.

Titanic

Yeap, like it wasn’t enough to leave us crying and heartbroken the first time. It might seem nothing could have made the film more impressive and thrilling but James Cameron, who is a world-known 3D genius, has once again proven us wrong. Now the film provides an even more beautiful and tragic experience. All the 3D scenes of the grand ship sinking are well-rounded and sharp, and the effects are expressive and natural. Unsurprisingly then, that Titanic 3D is considered to be one of the best examples of post-conversion 3D these days.

Have we missed anything? We would like to know what you think about this! Let us know, which 3D film you consider to be the best one.
